Tag Rugby

On Wednesday the 7th May we completed the second round of the Tag Rugby League organized by the Shepway Schools Sports Partnership.

A total of 17 teams are involved over the summer terms, playing every two weeks at Folkestone Rugby Club.   So far, our record is fair, having won three and lost three, with the matches we lost being very close affairs decided by a single point!

We are getting into our stride and will improve over the weeks although it has to be said the overall standard of the opposition is much higher than in previous years and some really good rugby is beibg played.

Well done to all the team, and many thanks to all the parents that have helped with tranport.

Prayer slip

Please pray for the people of Burma, following the devastation that has swept through their country during the last week. We pray that their Government will allow in the much needed world aid to help their people.

We continue to pray for Canon Russell and his family whilst Canon Russell undergoes further treatment.

We pray also for the wellbeing of all our other Parish clergy and lay preachers, and for all who help in the

running of our Parish Church St. Mary’s.

Recycling at Elham School

A reminder to all parents and friends that Elham School continues to recycle junk mail, newspapers, magazines etc.

Please place them into the big black bins outside the staff car park gates.

We also recycle aluminium cans – please place in the blue round bin and aluminium foil which can be placed inside the green wheelie bin.

All money raised is spent in school for play equipment and for the garden project.

Security at School

At the end of the school day, could we please remind all parents to collect their children from the playground, and to leave the school via the pedestrian gate by 3.15 pm and not through the school hall.

The playground must be clear of all children and parents by 3.15 pm, except for pupils that   are enrolled in the After School Club   and Miss Bailey is present.

NO children are allowed to play on the field or the wooden outdoor play equipment   after 3pm as they are not be covered by the school insurance.

Therefore could all parents ensure they have charge of their children at all times.

Could I also remind parents and pupils that once you have left the school building you should not return via the playground doors to collect anything left behind. If you need to come back into school, this must be done via the main school door by the office. Thank you for your support.

Trip of a life time to Wembley Stadium

On Saturday 26th April a small group left Elham School for a wonderful trip to the new Wembley Stadium to watch the under 18’s England v Scotland game.

The weather was wonderful, the mini bus was cool and every thing went like clockwork.

Wembley Stadium was brilliant!

The stadium was huge: flags were flying, trumpets blaring and lots of cheering football supporters. There were six matches played by children but the main game, U18 England v Scotland, was best of all. England won 2 nil. I wonder if this was because the goalie was called Ben Lewis!

Written by Ben Lewis class 3.

On Saturday 26th April a small group left Elham primary school heading for Wembley Stadium.

The atmosphere at the stadium was very loud, and exciting, the stadium is massive.

It will be a day that none of us will forget.

Key Stage One and Reception

Visit to Canterbury Environmental Centre

The pupils, staff and helpers had a wonderful day on Wednesday in spite of the rain showers.

The activities were enjoyed by everyone, adults included.

Pond dipping involved learning about the minibeasts

life in the pond, how they breathe and survive as well as identifying some very minute creatures under a magnifier.

The art activity involved making 3D models of minibeasts that live on and around the ground. Although very messy we were commended for our talents and the use of natural materials!

Some very thought provoking work to follow up in class!

The pupils and staff would like to thanks all the parents who accompanied us on the trip, we hope they also had a very enjoyable day, albeit very tiring.

Absences from school

If you know that your child will absent from school for any reason (medical/dentist appointments etc), please write a note to let us know before the day of absence. If your child has become too ill to attend school overnight, please phone the school in morning, between 8.00 am and 9.30 am.   We are required by law to record all unexplained absences as unauthorised.

Parking outside of School

We have been asked to bring to your attention the issue of road safety again.

Could all Parents please refrain from parking on the corner of Vicarage Lane and the main road towards Browns Estate Agents, on the yellow

zig-zag lines by the main pedestrian gate, also by the wooden field gates.

By leaving the space by these gates, this will allow for all passing traffic to have a safe place to pull in to allow traffic to flow freely.

PC Moody and Gary Harrison our Community Warden will be patrolling the school before and after school and do have the power to issue traffic tickets.

This is for the safety of all pupils and road user alike, thank you for supporting your children school.
