DT

The children are really enjoying their topic in DT this term. We have been making different moving mechanisms on our pictures. So far we have created pictures with a paper spring, a sliding mechanism and this week we looked at using a pivot. Soon the children will have the chance to plan their own christmas card and decide which mechanism they are going to use.

Maths

We are working really hard on our number sentences this week. Today the children have been looking at 'adding more', ie there are 3 cars in a car park, 5 more come in, now how many are there. They are working out what the number sentence will be and how to write it. 

Topic

We looked at all the different celebrations that we may celebrate with our families this week, the children were excellent at creating a group list of these. We also talked about celebrations that happen in different countries and religions.

Science

Our learning about senses continued this week and we focused on taste and touch. We began the lesson by allowing the children to guess items that were in the feely box and how they felt so different if we wore gloves.

Next the taste test, we were looking at the words sweet, sour, bitter and salty and predicted which item we thought would match these (pom bears, lemon juice, honey and cocoa powder). The cocoa powder surprised them all and we had some brilliant faces when they tried it!!!
