Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Elham Church of England Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child is included, supported and able to achieve their potential.

All children are entitled to a universal offer of high-quality teaching. This includes high expectations, an ambitious and supportive curriculum, adaptive teaching and a calm, nurturing learning environment. Teachers use assessment, observation and professional knowledge to identify barriers to learning and consider what adjustments or additional support may be needed.

Where a child requires additional or more targeted support, we use a graduated approach of Assess, Plan, Do, Review. Support is considered on an individual basis and may include adaptations within the classroom, targeted interventions or advice from external professionals. Parents and carers are involved in identifying needs, planning support and reviewing progress.

Inclusion is the responsibility of everyone at Elham. We work in partnership with children and their families to ensure that pupils with SEND are supported to learn, participate fully in school life and develop as confident, independent and successful learners.
