WC 8th Sep

What a fab first full week it has been in Nightingale class. We are fully in the swing of things now and have started our learning in all subjects. The children have continued to work on their place value and have focused this week on partitioning. In our English lessons we have started the book Tar Beach which is set in 1930s Harlem. The children have been inspired to write letters that focus on the injustice and racism many faced during this time, we have also started thinking about dialogue and children worked in pairs to plan dialogue between Cassie our protagonist and her brother Be Be. This week has culminated in our first spelling test on Friday of our au/augh words that we have been learning about all week. We have also had fun packed afternoons! In art this week our focus has turned to shading. The unit we are working on is all about growing artists and honing our drawing skills. History is all about childhood through the ages and this week we have been trying to answer the question - Why did children in the tudor times have to work? The children were not happy to hear that if they were living 500 years ago they would have all been sent to work, as the average age for children to begin working was 7 years old! Some of the jobs that people undertook were very different to the jobs done today and it is safe to say none of the children are aspiring to become gong farmers!

See you next week
