This week the children have been using the outline of Stone Age Boy to innovate their own version of the story where a Stone Age girl comes to Elham. They started this at the beginning of the week orally and using drama and then used story boards to plan their story. On Friday the children used all their ideas to write their finished story. They had to think about how their story would flow using paragraphs and to make their writing sound exciting by using great adjectives and expanded noun phrases. They all did a fantastic job and I really enjoyed reading them.
In maths we have been looking at symmetry, 2D and 3D shapes. We have been describing their properties using the correct mathematical language and sorting them using a Carroll diagram. Some children thought of their own criteria for sorting the shapes. It was amazing how many different ways we found to do this!
We have continued to study cave art and thought about different textures and tools that were used for painting. All the children had a go at painting on sandpaper using sticks and their fingers. It was great fun and they all thought carefully about the composition of their pieces.
