We have used pastries (plastic ones sadly!) and counters and ten frames to learn about doubling. The children understand that to double 3 you must take 3 and then get another 3 and then add them all together.
We have also played ball and doubled number that our hand landed on, and we played Snakes and Ladders, doubling the number on the dice (this has the advantage of making the game go faster!).
This week the children have cracked the difference between fixed and moving axles!

Phil, who gave a whole school talk to us about dog care last week, came back and visited our class for 40 minutes. We were told lots of things about dog care and he wants you to ask us what we have learned!

Florence brought in a beautiful old musical carousel to show us this week, the children loved watching the tiny horses going round. Ophelia had brought in 2 old toys that were her dad's, 1 was an old Chevrolet truck and the other a digger. Thank you girls!
We looked at how toys have changed over time today, I was amazed at how well some of the children knew what the safety labels on toy packaging meant. We then had a go at making our own spinning tops, it was very hard to keep them spinning for a long time but we persevered anyway.

Our class discussion this week has been about "What makes a person beautiful?". The children came up with some fantastic and interesting thoughts. It was lovely to hear them include, love, kindness, respect and understanding. We were so proud of their maturity and respectfulness about this subject that they have all been awarded a merit badge this week. Well done Hazels!
