I can't believe its half term already! The children have been busy with Roman numerals snap this morning as well as other maths games. We have finished reading Kaspar Prince of Cats and the children are all set to look out for an artifact to inspire their writing next term when we will be Story Detectives, just like Michael Morpurgo. If they can take a photo of it to bring in next term we will begin to innovate our own stories. The news broadcasting yesterday was a great success. Sadly the video files are mostly too large to upload here, but I was really impressed with the content , sensitivity and attention to detail. The children have been really captivated by our Titanic topic, which we will continue with next term.
Next term will also see lots of practice for the year 6 production in which we will be singing, though we will try to maintain our curriculum as much as possible.
Have a lovely week off!

Where has this term gone already?! Year 5 have been busy cycling and all gained their level 1 Bikeability test - congratulations all, and well done too to those who went on to gain level 2 as well! Yesterday and today year 5 have also been completing their CATs tests (Cognitive Ability Test) and have all behaved very sensibly throughout. Year 4 have been busy too, with their trip to the Living Land show at Detling (see Silver Birch webpage for photos), and last week a musical afternoon at the Harvey Grammar School.
We're all back together this week and the children have been researching some of the passengers of the Titanic, ready to write their very own biographies. In Maths we have been looking at negative number, which can be a very tricky concept - we have looked at examples with temperature and money to give the idea a context.

Welcome back to Term 5! I hope you all had a restful break - we've certainly hit the ground running this week...Pop Lacrosse tournaments, Maths Challenges at Kings, and we've even fitted in some learning! We have started our new topic: Titanic and are reading Michael Morpurgo's "Kaspar Prince of Cats" in English. We have started the term's Maths with using rounding to add and subtract with money and will be moving on to multiplication of fractions next week.
We have lots planned for next week with the PTA sponsored bounce, Bikeability and the year 4 trip, so lots to look forward to...
Have a lovely weekend!
