Hello everyone!

What a pleasure it has been to welcome everyone back to school at last. It is wonderful to see so many happy faces and hear laughter throughout the school. Oak Class have quickly settled into their new routines and have worked hard on the two days we have been back. We believe that they are all ready for the challenges that Year 6 will bring and we are excited to be teaching such a positive group of children. We work hard in Oak Class, but we also have a lot of fun too!

Home Spelling Books (and paper copies of spellings) have been sent home and the children will be tested on them next Friday morning. Each child has been told today which group they are in - Alpha or Beta. If your child loses his/her book and/or word sheet, they should ask Mrs Vincent for a new copy.

Times tables are tested on Thursday morning. This week we checked the children's knowledge of their 2x, 3x and 4x tables. On Thursday 16th September, they will be tested on their 5x, 6x and 10x tables. They will be retested on any tables they are not yet secure on until they know them solidly. Secure knowledge of their tables is extremely important to making good progress in Year 6 maths, so please have your child practise daily if their are still not solid on their tables. There are lots of good online resources including:

https://www.timestables.co.uk/

or in Purple Mash at https://www.purplemash.com/#app/games/timestables_assessment

and at Top Marks at https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables

We look forward to our first full week in school next week. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Best wishes

Mrs Short, Mrs Godden and Mrs Vincent
