Friday 3rd December 2021

Hello Everyone

Well, this week December began and we moved into Advent, a very special time for a Church of England school as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.  Rev. Deb came to visit to explain the meaning of Advent and the Advent wreath to us, and to help us prepare to lead the whole-school Christingle service in St Mary's church as the end of term.  We will be going to the church next week to practise.

As we approach the Christmas season, our RE lessons have been focussed on the story of Christ's birth and, in particular, how the holy family had to flee to Egypt when Herod tried to kill Jesus by slaughtering all the baby boys. We compared the experiences of modern day refugees with those of the holy family during their long journey and years spent in Egypt, before they were finally able to return to Nazareth once Herod had died.

We have already made some lovely stained glass window Christmas decorations and will be enjoying more Christmas crafts over the next couple of weeks.  We also looked at the net of a cube in maths and then made and decorated a cardboard cube to decorate our class Christmas tree and to act as our Advent calendar. Each day, one child gets to open that day's box and read out a Christmas message sent by another class member, as well as enjoying the chocolates inside!

We are continuing to study Private Peaceful in English and have looked at WWI propaganda posters and how important messages were broadcast to the public during the war. We are also working in some persuasive writing linked to the text.

Computing has been very enjoyable this term as we are learning to use Tinkercad, an online Computer Aided Design program.  Last week, we each designed a house and this week we created our own keyrings. We have very quickly learnt the many different skills needed and will be designing and then creating our own projects in the future. It's a shame we don't have a 3-D printer, as it would be great to see our designs realised.

What a busy week of fantastic learning - I'm tired just writing about it!  Have a super weekend everyone.

Best wishes

Mrs Godden and Mrs Short
