Well Oak Class, what a fantastic final week we have enjoyed together! Monday started with the Skywalk and foot golf at Folkestone Sports Centre where everyone faced their fears and managed the top high-ropes course.  Tuesday was a really fun afternoon with lots of great activities to do at our summer fair, all kindly organised for us by our lovely parents and governors.

Fun at the beach was the order of the day on Wednesday and what fun it was! From kayaking and paddle boarding, to beach combing, beach games and swimming in the sea, we enjoyed an amazing day. Plus the weather was kind to us and we all enjoyed a well-earned icecream before heading home salty, sandy and very tired, but happy with our efforts and achievements.

On Thursday we did a final tidy up of the classroom, practised reading our Memories for the Leavers' Service and were honoured with a visit from Bishop Rose, Bishop of Dover. She told us how she began life in a modest family in Montego Bay, Jamaica, was called by God to his service at the age of 14 and then moved to Britain to train as a minister. Finally, in November 2019, she was installed as the Bishop of Dover. What an extraordinary life she has led!

She left us with some very inspirational words:

'I am just a ..... - never say those words. You are a child of God. You are blessed. Great things can happen, but you must play your part.'

'Whatever you want to be, be the best that you can be.'

During the afternoon we walked to Mrs Godden's house where we ran around playing games and then enjoyed a barbecue before returning to school. It was another fun activity for us.

Finally, Friday, our last ever day at Elham School, came around. It was a bittersweet day. A time to reflect upon and celebrate all our hard work and achievements throughout our time here. We each read out our best memories at the Leavers' Service, Mr File gifted us all a copy of 'You are awesome!' to inspire us on our onward journeys and cups were handed out for special achievements. This year's recipients were:

Jack Soutan - The Mr D Cup for Endeavour

Erin Brazier - The Merit Cup

Oscar Newall - The Boys' Sports Cup (The Hall Family Cup)

Scarlett Newing - The Girls' Sports Cup (The Cowling Cup)

Joanna Hayes - The All Round Sportsperson Cup (The John Hill Cup)

The Football Cup (The Danny Norton Cup) was not awarded this year as no football was played due to Covid. The Team Shield was won by Water this year.

After our final goodbyes, we thought we would all be heading home (or perhaps to the park), but our parents had organised a fantastic suprise for us - a ride on an old red double-decker bus. Of course we sang 'The Wheels on the Bus' as we travelled along through the Elham Valley! Upon our return to Elham we were then treated to a barbecue as well.

Finally, our production of A Midsummer Night's Dream was premiered on YouTube at 6.15pm. If you haven't yet watched it, the link is given below.

It may not have been a normal year at Elham School, but we have all worked hard and enjoyed an amazing final week together.

We wish you all the very best of luck as you move on to your new schools. Have a great summer too!

Mrs Short, Mrs Godden and Mrs Vincent
