Term 3

Term 3 Week 6

We have had a fab week learning about firefighters. Ian from KIC theater came in a acted out the emergency services with us. On Thursday Anna the firefighter came in and told us all about how to stay safe and what firefighters do.

Term 3 Week 5

This week our learning has been about another emergency service, Paramedics. We have role played and written about what a paramedic does. The children have really enjoyed pretending to be the patient.

We have had lots of opportunity to practise our writing. I really think all of the children are showing great progress with the formation of their letters.
We have learnt number bonds in maths, lots of the children can demonstrate number bonds to 10, and some of us have been looking at teen numbers.
Brrrrr Forest School was great fun this week, but very chilly.

Term 3 Week 4

This week we have been learning about the Police. We were very lucky to have George's dad come in and tell us all about what it was like to be a Police Officer. We have learnt about finger prints and had a go ourselves. We looked at enlarged fingerprints and could see that they are all different. We also took robbers out of jail to learn subtraction. The children enjoyed making pictures with the tap tap hammers, a really good fine motor activity.

Term 3 Week 3

This week we have been very busy learning about Chinese New Year. The children have learnt that this year is the year of the rat. Some of Acorn Class were born in the year of the Horse and some in the year of the Goat. We have tasted Chinese food which everyone tried and written Chinese writing. The children had a problem to solve this week. They needed to make an envelope to hold six coins. This linked with our learning about money and the Chinese custom of giving red envelopes when it is new year.

We are practising our handwriting and lots of children are making fantastic progress forming their letters correctly.

We have been singing days of the week, months of the year and seasons songs. The children are learning them well and feel really proud when they do.

We also spent some time at Forest School looking at seasonal changes.

Phew! What a busy week!

The Children enjoyed acting out the story of Chinese New Year. Layla made a fantastic Jade Emperor keeping all of the animals in order as they raced to cross the river.

Term 3 Week 2

This week we have been learning about the people who help us in school. We have used question words to ask Mr Elgar about his job. We have looked at materials and which would be the best to be waterproof. We have been learning addition in our maths and had great fun playing with some new class resources with our friends.

Term 3 Week 1

Welcome back Acorns. I hope you have had a super Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you so much for our lovely Christmas gifts.

Our learning this term will be themed around the people who help us, or our community heroes as we like to call them.

Have a look at our curriculum overview to see what we will be covering this term.
