Welcome to Potter Class!

The Term Ahead: Potter Class Term 1

English

This term we will be reading the book: The journey home by Fran-Preston-Gannon. We will base our English lessons on the book and will explore different types of sentences (command, exclamation, question and statement), using verbs in writing, writing for different purposes and spelling rules for plurals.

Maths

In Maths we will be learning about Place Value

Science

Our topic in Science is Animals, including humans: Sensitive bodies

The children will be identifying and naming body parts and conducting practical activities with the senses to spot patterns and answer questions.

 

RE

In RE we are exploring Creation, Who made the World. Children will look at the Genesis story, recognise that ‘Creation’ is the beginning of the ‘big story’ of the Bible and say what the story tells Christians about God, Creation and the world.

Foundation Subjects

Our topic in History is: What is History? The children will be looking at personal chronology and finding out about the past in living memory. They will be finding out about holidays in the past and how holidays have changed over time.

 

In Music we will be thinking about Dynamics. Children will make links between music, sounds and environments and use percussion, vocal and body sounds to represent calm or stormy seas.

 

On Wednesdays, the children will learn Tag Rugby skills in PE. On Thursdays, they will be learning and practising Brilliant Ball Skills.

 

In PSHE we will be learning about families and relationships. Children will explore how families can be different, the characteristics and impact of positive friendships; learn that issues can be overcome, people show feelings differently and that stereotyping is unfair. Looking at conventions of manners and developing an understanding of self-respect.

 

PE Days

Our PE days this term will be Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please send the children to school in their PE kits on both of these days.

 

Please ensure that you send your child to school with a named water bottle every day.

Your teachers in Potter Class!

Mrs Cronin will teach Potter Class every morning. We will learn Phonics, English, Maths and have our group reading sessions. The class will be taught by Miss Knight on Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Mr Magliocco will teach on Wednesday afternoons and Mrs Grady will teach on Thursday afternoons.
